BSI seeking industry feedback on audio systems for emergency communication - Martyn's Law
We have recently been notified of a joint initiative between the EPL100 and FSH/12/05 committees to provide practical guidance on how Martyn’s Law may be addressed from a systems and technical perspective.
As part of this work, British Standards Institution (BSI) has announced that it is considering the development of a new British Standard Code of Practice focused on the use of audio systems for emergency communication.
This proposed Code of Practice is intended to offer structured guidance on the planning, design, integration and use of audio systems to support public safety and emergency communication in relevant venues – an area that will be increasingly important as Martyn’s Law is implemented.
BSI is currently inviting industry feedback and expressions of support to determine whether the project should progress to the draft stage. We strongly encourage ISCVE members of all grades – including Supporting Members and Registered Installers, to review the proposal and submit any comments or support directly.
Deadline for Responses: 19 February 2026
This is an opportunity for our sector to help shape clear, practical and technically robust guidance at an early stage, and to ensure that professional audio and communication systems are properly represented within the standard.
