L-Acoustics K2 Debuts at Toyota Innibos 2025
New K2 system powers sound for 78,800 festival goers at South Africa’s premier Afrikaans arts festival.
NELSPRUIT, South Africa – August 2025 –MGG Productions has successfully deployed its newly-acquired L-Acoustics K2 sound system at the Toyota Innibos Lowveld National Arts Festival. The event marked the first outing for MGG’s newly acquired K2 system and delivered pristine sound across one of South Africa’s most significant cultural celebrations.
Since its inception in 2004, Toyota Innibos has grown into South Africa’s largest Afrikaans arts festival, this year welcoming nearly 79,000 attendees across a 9,500 m² audience area. Over three days, audiences enjoyed theatre, lifestyle shows and more than 35 top South African music acts, while the festival generated an estimated R80–100 million for the local economy.
L-Acoustics K2 Investment Enhances MGG’s Capabilities
MGG Productions sourced its K2 system via L-Acoustics Certified Provider Distributor DWR Distribution, with delivery in time for the high-profile deployment.
“Expanding our L-Acoustics inventory is an important investment in our future capabilities,” comments Gunther Muller, Project Manager at MGG. “The K2 system enhances our ability to serve clients across diverse sectors whilst maintaining the technical excellence that has defined MGG for 25 years.”
Meeting Acoustic Challenges
Festival staging at Hoërskool Bergvlam presented complex coverage needs with grandstands, VIP areas and multiple audience zones. Using L-Acoustics Soundvision software, MGG’s audio team modelled the venue and optimised sound distribution, enabling accurate prediction, amplifier assignments, and real-time adjustments during setup.
Comprehensive Deployment
The system design included:
- Main hangs of 12 K2 per side with Kara II down-fills
- Flown SB18 subs and KS28 subwoofer delay arc
- Out-fill coverage with V-DOSC and dV-DOSC enclosures
- Three delay towers of Kara II enclosures
- Networking backbone with LS10 switches and P1 processors providing full Milan-AVB redundancy
Despite access restrictions at the site, the L-Acoustics intelligent casing and networking workflow enabled the entire PA to be operational within a single day, with only minor delays related to tower positioning rather than the core system installation.
The technical crew, comprising experienced L-Acoustics users, found the system’s operation seamless throughout the event. Front-of-house engineer Murray Lubbe, consistently praised the L-Acoustics system performance. The Milan-AVB networking capabilities proved particularly valuable, with the fibre-optic infrastructure providing stable, high-quality audio distribution across the extensive venue layout.
The deployment also benefited from support by DWR Distribution, L-Acoustics South African distributor, who provided on-site expertise through Solutions Architect Kyle Freemantle. This collaboration ensured optimal system configuration and provided valuable knowledge transfer to the MGG team.
“Our experience with L-Acoustics systems at Innibos has consistently exceeded expectations,” adds Dean Parker, Head of Audio at MGG. “The decision to deploy our new K2 investment here was an easy one.”
