Our Training Event: Loudspeakers, Room Acoustics & How They Interact
We are pleased to report the success of our recent training course, “Loudspeakers, Room Acoustics & How They Interact,” which took place on October 16, 2024, at Illumino Ignis in Peterborough, one of our Supporting Members. We are delighted to announce that all attendees successfully passed the required assessment for this CPD-accredited course, demonstrating their dedication to learning and professional growth.
Led by the experienced Tony Stacey FInstSCVE, the course aimed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and insights needed to optimise audio systems by understanding the relationship between loudspeakers and room acoustics. Key topics covered included:
- The Acoustic Signal Path: Understanding how audio signals travel from loudspeakers to listeners’ ears and its impact on sound quality.
- Direct to Reverberant Ratio: Recognising the significance of this ratio for speech intelligibility and music fidelity, and learning how to optimise it for superior performance.
- Loudspeaker Characteristics: Exploring essential factors such as sensitivity, power handling, maximum SPL, bass extension, fidelity, and dispersion.
- Defining Dispersion: Assessing a loudspeaker’s acoustic performance and learning how to utilise this data for effective comparisons.
- Optimising Audio Quality: Selecting and positioning loudspeakers to enhance the direct to reverberant ratio and overall sound quality.
This course, designed for professionals involved in specifying, designing, installing, or using sound systems—including contractors, estimators, system designers, live sound engineers, and theatre technicians—provided valuable expertise essential for achieving optimal sound quality in any environment.
We would like to extend our thanks to Illumino Ignis for hosting the event, as well as to Tony Stacey for delivering a highly informative session. A special thank you also goes to all the attendees for their active participation.
