Ukraine’s VYRII Festival Delivers Live Sound Excellence with L-Acoustics
Franz Audio deploys K3, Kara and V-DOSC across two ethno-electronic stages at festival hailed as “Ukraine’s Burning Man”
Kyiv, Ukraine – December 2025
Ukraine’s inaugural VYRII Festival took place in August 2025, blending Ukrainian culture and mythology with contemporary electronic music, traditional performance, theatre and visual art. Often described as “Ukraine’s Burning Man”, the festival adopted ethnofuturism as its guiding theme, encouraging freedom of expression across all creative disciplines.
Audiences of all ages experienced a diverse line-up featuring international artists such as Mercury Prize-winner Benjamin Clementine, alongside Ukrainian icons Jamala and DakhaBrakha. For many attendees, the festival provided a powerful and uplifting cultural moment amid the ongoing challenges of war.
Delivering sound quality under exceptional conditions
Achieving high-quality, consistent audio coverage across the VYRII site required both robust equipment and experienced technical delivery. Franz Audio, one of Ukraine’s leading technical production companies, has collaborated with the VYRII organisers for over five years and was entrusted with designing and delivering the festival’s audio infrastructure.
With two stages operating simultaneously, the brief required even coverage, controlled low-frequency performance and minimal sound bleed, allowing audiences to move freely between stages without interference. The system design needed to accommodate both high-impact electronic acts and more nuanced acoustic performances.
System design shaped by availability
Final system configuration was influenced by equipment availability, with much of Ukraine’s professional audio inventory either damaged or relocated for protection during the war. K3 and Kara systems were selected for the electronic stage, while a legacy V-DOSC system was deployed on the main stage.
Despite these constraints, the combination proved highly effective. “Adapting to what was available ensured that VYRII could proceed without compromise,” explains Franz Audio Director Yurii Danyliuk.
Two stages, two tailored solutions
Franz Audio used Soundvision to model both stages, predict coverage and optimise loudspeaker placement, before transferring configurations into LA Network Manager for system tuning.
“Soundvision greatly simplified our process,” says Danyliuk. “It allowed us to simulate coverage accurately and ensure we met our primary objective of consistent sound distribution.”
The electronic stage featured three hangs: two clusters of six K3 over three Kara each, supported by an out-fill hang of four additional Kara. Six Kiva loudspeakers provided front-fill, while SB18 and KS28 subwoofers delivered controlled, powerful low-frequency performance. This configuration provided precise imaging and clarity while maintaining audience comfort.
The main stage deployed two hangs of 11 V-DOSC elements, powered by LA8 amplified controllers. Although new to the Franz Audio team, the system integrated smoothly thanks to extensive preparation and training.
“Our familiarity with L-Acoustics systems and the work we carried out in Soundvision made the transition to V-DOSC straightforward,” Danyliuk notes. “Despite being a classic series, it proved to be a reliable, versatile and powerful solution for a large outdoor festival.”
Integrated control and resilient delivery
The K3/Kara system utilised the AES67 network audio protocol, providing high-quality signal transmission, flexible configuration and precise synchronisation via PTPv2. Audio, video and lighting were integrated into a unified control system — essential for the electronic stage, where music and visuals were tightly synchronised.
Despite challenges including adverse weather and air-raid alerts, the installation proceeded to schedule, with systems deployed efficiently and safely.
Professional results in extraordinary circumstances
Feedback from FOH engineers, technical teams, artists and audiences was overwhelmingly positive. Many performers praised the clarity and consistency of the sound system, highlighting how it enabled them to connect fully with the audience.
“We have no doubt that our choice of sound system had a definitive impact on the success of the event,” says Danyliuk. “Even looking back now, we wouldn’t change anything. Delivering this level of professionalism during an ongoing war makes the project especially meaningful for our team.”
