Tom Simpson MInstSCVE
Training Committee Chairman, Council Member
Tom has been in the audio industry since 1978 specialising in sound system design and optimisation. Tom has been a member of the ISCVE since 1991.
He started his professional audio life installing and maintaining background/foreground music systems. After a brief time selling consumer audio products in 1986 Tom formed a business with a school friend providing lighting, sound system hires and installations. During that time Tom designed many sound system solutions for schools, theatres and retail businesses.
In 1996 Tom took up an offer from Bose Professional UK to set up an engineering support department to provide system design and product technical support for Bose dealers. Having been an active user of the Bose Modeler sound system design software since 1991, Tom was well placed to take the lead in the introduction and use of the Bose Auditioner auralisation technology in 1996. Since then, he has designed many sound systems being able to let people hear solutions before being installed avoiding possible costly mistakes.
As well delivering training to Bose partners and consultants, Tom also presented RIBA approved CPD sessions to a number of architectural practises. Pointing out the challenges in designing intelligible sound systems in modern buildings.
In 2018 after a very rewarding career, Tom decided to leave Bose Professional and take some time out to spend with his growing family and work on a few projects. In 2023 Tom joined the ISCVE training committee as he wanted to give back something to the industry, he is so passionate about.
