Milestone Church Audio Upgrade from Richard King Systems
St. Joseph’s Church in Colwyn Bay has been at the heart of its community since it was built between 1898 and 1900, thanks to a generous donation from Monsignor James Lennon in memory of his brother, Dean John Lennon. Designed to be light, spacious, and welcoming, the church has served generations of worshippers and visitors. Over 120 years later, the church has embarked on a modern transformation to enhance its services further.
In 2024, ISCVE Member Richard King Systems was invited to St. Joseph’s Church to assess its sound reproduction needs. Known for their expertise in places of worship, Richard King Systems conducted a comprehensive consultation with church representatives. They identified limitations in the existing system and proposed a plan to improve the clarity and delivery of the spoken word to the congregation.
The project presented unique challenges due to the highly reverberant interior of the church and limited options for loudspeaker placement. To address this, Richard King Systems installed a temporary system for evaluation, allowing church officials and the congregation to experience the proposed enhancements. The overwhelmingly positive feedback led to a full system upgrade.
The new system, while retaining some original equipment such as hand-held radio microphones, represents a cutting-edge transformation. At its core is a powerful control processor with bespoke software tailored to St. Joseph’s needs. The system features wireless, user-friendly controls for discreet and efficient operation, by enabling adjustments from any location within the church.
Behind the scenes, the system provides automatic microphone mixing to ensure optimum sound quality. The team at Richard King Systems fine-tuned the setup to deliver exceptional clarity and reliability, ensuring a first-class audio experience for every service.
