ISCVE Introduces Breakthrough Talent Award 2024 Winners
As part of our commitment to supporting emerging talent, ISCVE partnered with industry association Production Futures to sponsor two categories at the 2024 Breakthrough Talent Awards. This vibrant event, held in November 2024, celebrated the achievements of newcomers in the entertainment production industry.
Our two category winners won a 12-month ISCVE membership and have been awarded the grade of MInstSCVE, alongside additional prizes to support their professional growth. These opportunities provide them with access to our extensive network, resources, and development tools.
Meet Our Winners!
AV Newcomer of the Year: Ben Sugrue
Ben Sugrue’s contributions to the AV industry showcase his technical expertise and innovative approach to immersive experiences and show control.
Career Highlights:
- Disguise Technologies: Hardware Technician specialising in cutting-edge AV solutions.
- ER Productions: Show Control & Rack De-Prep Technician, working on high-profile laser and lighting productions.
- Layered Reality: Technician for immersive live events, blending AV technology with creative storytelling.
- Freelance Lighting Technician: Over five years of experience supporting productions with technical expertise and creative lighting solutions.
Qualifications:
- BA (Hons) Creative Lighting Control.
- Certified Laser Safety Officer and trained in DMX theory, Dante, GrandMa2, and EOS systems.
- Accredited by Disguise Technologies as a Certified Service Centre Partner Technician.
Ben’s technical proficiency and dedication to continuous learning make him a standout in the AV field.
Ben shared his thoughts on this achievement:
“Winning a Production Futures award means a lot to me. I’ve always admired previous winners working on massive shows, and for years, I’ve focused on making sure racks and systems are tour-ready—often behind the scenes of the behind-the-scenes work. This recognition feels truly special. I’m also excited to join the ISCVE Institute, which clearly supports the technical work I’m passionate about. I’m looking forward to connecting with others and growing my technical knowledge further in 2025. Here’s to an amazing year ahead!”
Audio Newcomer of the Year: Ema Gazdik
Ema Gazdik’s journey in the audio industry is nothing short of remarkable. From working with international acts to mastering the technical complexities of live sound, her achievements demonstrate her dedication and expertise.
Career Highlights:
- Monitor Engineer Dep/Monitor Technician: Supporting major artists like Jason Derulo across festivals and headline slots internationally.
- Monitor Engineer: Mixing for “The Rock Orchestra” and Mae Muller, including Eurovision promo events and high-profile television performances.
- Audio Technician: Touring and in-house work with Adlib, including collaborations with Becky Hill and Janelle Monae.
- Production Manager: Technical production management at Future Yard CIC, where she also led audio teaching sessions for trainees aged 16-25.
Education: BA (Hons) Music & Technology with Philosophy, University of Liverpool.
Ema’s multilingual skills and diverse portfolio demonstrate her versatility and commitment to excellence in audio engineering.
Ema shared her thoughts on this recognition:
