Torpedo Factory Group is a long established provider of Audio Visual systems into a variety of markets and have a dedicated division providing stage and performance sound and lighting systems.

Overview:

Reporting to: Technical Director

The Project Engineer will be responsible for the technical systems design, detailed engineering and commissioning of AV and Stage/Performance Systems as part of the Project Division.

This role may be based in London (NW10) or Bicester but will also include travelling to customer sites throughout the UK and Europe.

Main role and responsibilities, but not limited to:

System designs for AV and Stage/performance area systems
Supervision of CAD resources and checking of drawings for accuracy and completeness
Production of detailed systems designs, cabling layouts, rack layouts, cable schedules, panel layouts, site integration details etc.
Liaison with sales team to ensure correct equipment specifications – both pre- and post-sale.
Liaison with client technical, management and operational staff to ensure their requirements are met.
Co-ordination of designs with other trades and contractors – attendance at site meeting.
Working closely with the Divisional Director(s), Project Managers, engineers & site teams to facilitate a seamless design and commissioning function
Assistance with Project documentation such as O & M manuals
Liaising with the technical team to confirm technical product specifications
Factory testing and configuration of AV and Stage/performance systems including audio DSP, paging systems, video switching and distribution, control systems and amplifiers.
Site-based commissioning of AV and Stage/Performance systems – including working extended/unsocial hours on occasion to meet project deadlines.
Attendance at project meetings.
Developing and maintaining design standards.

Experience & Key Skills:

Highly organized with experience in a previous Audio, AV or Stage/performance Project Engineering/design role – training will be given on other areas
Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach
Team player, with ‘right first time’ approach.
Experience in using Microsoft Applications to at least Intermediate level (Word, Outlook, Excel).
Proficient in AutoCAD.  REVIT capabilities and experience would be beneficial but not essential.
Good understanding of some or all of the following (additional training can be given):

  • Audio systems – amplifiers, loudspeakers, consoles, paging systems and DSP
  • Video distribution systems – IP-Based, twisted pair and conventional cabling
  • Fibre optic cabling
  • Control systems such as Crestron and AMX
  • IP networking
  • Electrical systems and wiring (to BS7671)
  • DMX and lighting control
  • Stage and performance lighting
  • Stage engineering

Ability to read and understand technical documents and drawings
Excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
Ability to cope under pressure and work to tight deadlines, prioritising work accordingly.
Strong and clear communications skills, both verbal and written.  Ability to communicate with clients at multiple levels..
Minimum 2 years` experience in a similar role with proven experience
Flexible approach to working patterns.
AVIXA/InfoComm training and/or certifications an advantage.
ISCVE membership an advantage.

Salary:

Dependent on skills and experience but within the range of £30k – £40k per annum, with 20 days holiday (plus statutory holidays).

Qualifications:

Ideally degree or HND level engineering or relevant science qualifications are sought, but a strong technical background and experience would be a good substitute.
