Baldwin Boxall awarded UK patent for New Emergency Voice Communication system architecture
Baldwin Boxall has announced that it has been granted a UK patent for a new Emergency Voice Communication System (EVCS) architecture designed to provide greater flexibility in the design and installation of emergency communication systems. The patent was granted by the UK Intellectual Property Office and protects the company’s dual-connection EVCS architecture under patent number GB2605125.
The patented technology enables both loop-wired and radial-wired outstations to operate simultaneously on a single EVCS platform. Traditionally, system designers have had to choose one wiring topology for an entire installation, often requiring compromises to accommodate the layout and constraints of a building. According to Baldwin Boxall, the new architecture removes this limitation by allowing both connection methods to coexist within the same system.
The company says the approach offers greater flexibility for specifiers and installers, particularly on complex projects involving phased refurbishments, extensions or buildings with differing construction methods. By allowing designers to select the most appropriate wiring method for each area, the system can better adapt to the practical realities of modern construction while remaining within a single EVCS platform.
The patented architecture forms the foundation of Baldwin Boxall’s OmniCALL Emergency Voice Communication System, which was introduced earlier this year. The company also highlights potential benefits including simplified installation, reduced spare part requirements and easier future expansion or modification of systems as buildings evolve.
Emergency Voice Communication Systems play a vital role in enabling communication between building occupants and emergency responders during incidents, making innovation in this area of particular interest to professionals involved in life safety, voice alarm and integrated communication systems.
