Is Professional Registration Right for You?
Is Professional Registration Right for You?
Since announcing ISCVE’s new Professional Registration pathway through our partnership with the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE), we have received a growing number of enquiries from members interested in learning more about the opportunities available.
One of the most usual questions is: “Am I eligible?”
Professional Registration recognises the skills, knowledge, experience and professional competence of engineers and technicians working across the sound, communications and audiovisual sectors. It is not reserved solely for senior engineers or managers. There are three levels of registration available:
Engineering Technician (EngTech)
Typically suited to technicians and technical specialists who apply proven techniques and procedures in their day-to-day work.
Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
Designed for those responsible for the design, implementation, operation or management of engineering solutions and projects.
Chartered Engineer (CEng)
Aimed at engineers working at a strategic or innovative level, leading complex engineering activities and advancing technology and best practice.
ISCVE members may already be developing the knowledge and experience required for registration through their everyday roles, whether involved in system design, installation, commissioning, project management, consultancy, maintenance or technical support.
Achieving Professional Registration provides independent recognition of professional competence and commitment. It shows your expertise to employers, clients and colleagues while supporting career progression and improving professional credibility.
If you are considering applying, we encourage you to explore the guidance available on the ISCVE website and begin recording your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) using the MyCareerPath portal.
Over the coming months, ISCVE will continue to publish practical guidance, explain the different registration routes and help members identify the registration level that best matches their qualifications, experience and career aspirations.
Find out more about Professional Registration, the available registration routes and MyCareerPath by visiting the Professional Registration pages on the ISCVE website.
