Bulgarian railway infrastructure modernised with new digital Voice Alarm Systems from Ambient System
ISCVE Supporting Member Ambient System, a leading provider of Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) systems, has completed a major project to modernise railway lines in Bulgaria. Working in partnership with local distributor Pro Audio Ltd, the company delivered new digital PAVA systems. The project involved replacing outdated analogue PA systems with modern, digital solutions compliant with both EN 54 and TSI PRM standards.
The scope included the design and delivery of PAVA systems across several regions, including Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Kostinbrod and Mezdra. The solution provided by Ambient System featured compact midiVES and miniVES Voice Alarm Systems. These all-in-one control units are designed for versatility and can operate either as standalone systems or within a TCP/IP network architecture. The PAVA systems were also integrated with a third-party passenger information system and an IP telephone system.
The entire solution is managed by the Yellow Security System Management Software, which offers comprehensive visualisation, remote management and system logging capabilities. New regional control centres were equipped with YELLOW PC workstations to manage the systems.

“A project of such functionality and scale is being implemented for the first time in the country’s railway transport infrastructure, positioning Pro Audio’s expertise and Ambient System’s cutting-edge solutions as a key factor in the modernisation of communication systems across both transport and industrial sectors.” – Stanislav Petrov, Managing Director, Pro Audio Ltd.
“The work in Bulgaria exemplifies our focus on contributing to major transportation projects. We believe that building strong, local partnerships is crucial for the successful implementation of such large-scale initiatives.” – Krzysztof Młudzik, Technical Director, Ambient System
The primary role of the new PAVA systems is to provide passengers with voice information regarding train timetables, including deviations, as well as general and security messages. The project also included the deployment of EN 54 certified loudspeakers and System Gateway servers for integration. The system can be remotely controlled from Operation Control Centres (OCC) and is capable of broadcasting both automatic (passenger information system-generated) and manual messages.
