Which ECS Card Is Right for Your AV Role?

The introduction of the Audiovisual Technician Gold ECS Card and Audiovisual Project Manager Black ECS Card gives qualified AV professionals two additional ways to demonstrate their occupational competence. These routes sit alongside the established ISCVE Sound Engineer and AV Engineer ECS cards, which remain available to eligible ISCVE members who may not hold formal vocational qualifications.

Routes for applicants with formal qualifications

The Audiovisual Technician Gold ECS Card is designed for technicians who install, configure, commission and operate complex audiovisual systems. Applicants must hold an appropriate Level 3 or above apprenticeship standard or equivalent qualification.

The Audiovisual Project Manager Black ECS Card is intended for professionals responsible for coordinating installations, supervising work on site, overseeing project delivery and liaising with clients. Applicants must hold an appropriate Level 4 or Level 5 occupation-specific qualification.

These cards provide formal recognition of an applicant’s qualifications, occupational role and understanding of relevant health and safety requirements.

What if you do not hold formal qualifications?

Many experienced professionals working in the sound and audiovisual industries have built their knowledge and competence through practical work, professional development and many years in the sector rather than through a formal qualification.

If you do not meet the qualification requirements for the Gold or Black card, as an ISCVE member, you are eligible to apply for an ISCVE Sound Engineer or ISCVE AV Engineer ECS Card.

The Sound Engineer card covers professionals working in areas such as pro audio, live sound, sound systems, public address and voice alarm systems, acoustics and assistive listening systems.

The AV Engineer card is designed for those working within audiovisual installation, including projection systems, digital signage, integrated AV and smart technology as well as assistive listening systems.

Applying through ISCVE

Applicants must be current ISCVE members and hold valid ECS Health, Safety & Environmental and Electrical Safety Unit assessment certificates, unless an accepted exemption applies.
