Discreet by Design for University of Twente
NEXO GEO M6 combines compact dimensions with powerful performance at the University of Twente.
Located in the Dutch city of Enschede, the University of Twente brings together technology, science and engineering with the social sciences, encouraging students, researchers and educators to share a curious and entrepreneurial approach.
When the university needed to replace the sound system in one of its lecture theatres, audiovisual solutions provider SYNC. solutions contacted local NEXO distributor Audio-Technica Benelux for support with the new design.
The theatre’s existing 12-inch line array had become increasingly unreliable. Its size and prominent appearance also made it visually intrusive within the room.
Audio-Technica Benelux Brand Manager and Sales Engineer Bert Koenders explains:
“We proposed an ultra-compact NEXO GEO M6 system, with additional NEXO ID24 speakers covering the upper tiers of seating in what is a very steeply raked room.
“The cabinets are finished in white to blend in with their surroundings, while a pair of NEXO L15 subwoofers are mounted in the ceiling and cannot be seen from the room.
“The result is a system that is much smaller and more visually discreet than its predecessor, yet is also impressively powerful, with excellent speech intelligibility and very consistent coverage across the room.”
The installation comprises two hangs of six GEO M6 loudspeakers, together with two L15 subwoofers. Power and processing are provided by NEXO NXAMP4X1 Powered TD Controllers, while six ID24 loudspeakers are powered by smaller NEXO nanoNXAMPs.
The lecture theatre can also be divided through the centre to create two separate teaching spaces. Bert adds:
“The system is configured L/R, L/R so that everyone experiences a stereo image, whether the room is used as a single lecture theatre or divided into two.”
The finished system combines compact dimensions with powerful performance, providing the university with clear speech reproduction and consistent coverage while remaining discreet within the architecture of the room.
