Flare Audio Presented with King’s Award for Enterprise
It is always great to see the achievements of our members recognised at the highest level. ISCVE member Flare Audio has been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise, a testament to the company’s innovation and the positive impact its work is having globally. Their success with Calmer reflects the strength of expertise and forward-thinking approach across the ISCVE membership.
Technology company Flare Audio was officially presented with the award on 30 April for its breakthrough stress-relieving product, Calmer.
The formal presentation took place at the company’s headquarters in Lancing, where His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex, Lady Emma Barnard, presented Co-CEOs Davies Roberts and Naomi Roberts with the Award and Grant of Appointment. The visit included a tour of the premises and an overview of the company’s journey, followed by a presentation ceremony and reception.
The King’s Awards for Enterprise are among the UK’s most prestigious business honours, celebrating outstanding achievement. Flare Audio was one of just 46 organisations recognised this year in the Innovation category, highlighting the impact of its product, Calmer.
Calmer is a discreet in-ear device designed to reduce stress caused by uncomfortable or intrusive noise, without blocking sound or creating the isolation often associated with traditional earplugs. By subtly altering the ear’s internal geometry, it softens high-frequency sounds, helping users manage environments such as busy public spaces, social settings, and everyday background noise. The product has also provided significant benefits for individuals with sound sensitivities, including those associated with autism and ADHD.
Since launch, Flare Audio has sold over 2 million pairs of Calmer across 186 countries, supporting millions of people worldwide.
Flare’s Product Inventor and Co-Founder, Davies Roberts, also attended a Royal Reception at Windsor Castle in June, hosted by King Charles III, where he discussed the innovation and presented His Majesty with a pair of Calmer. The recent ceremony marked the formal presentation of the award by the King’s representative.
Davies Roberts commented, “I cannot express how humbled I am that one of my inventions has been recognised by the King. We are honoured to receive this award from Lady Emma. To be recognised for an invention that is making a difference in the world is what every inventor dreams of.”
Founded in 2007 and employing a team of 19, Flare Audio has developed a reputation for innovation in consumer audio technology, with a focus on minimising distortion and delivering sound in its purest form. The company’s work has attracted support from notable figures across the music and broadcasting industries, including Stephen Fry, Tony Visconti, and Chris Hawkins.
The King’s Award programme, now in its 59th year, is a globally recognised mark of excellence. Recipients are entitled to use the King’s Awards emblem for the next five years.
“An RTI control and automation system makes it quick and easy to configure the room for presentations or video conferencing, with ceiling-mounted microphones for voice capture. The elegant design of the ID84 was an important consideration in the choice of speaker and they deliver a very smooth, hi-fidelity sound. The system also has the headroom to make a real impact in AV presentations.” Lady Emma Barnard
