ISCVEx 2023 Members' Day Presentation from Alex Krasnic BEng(Hons) MSc FIOA MInstSVCE
ISCVE is delighted to announce details of its forthcoming ISCVEx 2023 Members’ Day presentation, which will be presented by Alex Krasnic BEng(Hons) MSc FIOA MInstSCVE.
The Members’ Day presentation is a feature of ISCVE’s AGM and Members’ Day which takes place at Coombe Abbey on Tuesday 21 March 2023 . The event is open to non-ISCVE members, Members and Supporting Members anyone wishing to attend can pre-register here.
Bolting the door before the jolting horse: Lessons learned for the Installed Sound/AV industry when engaging with Architects
A common challenge for the Installed Sound and AV industry (whether designers or integrators of PA, pro-audio, sound reinforcement, voice alarm, HLS or AV systems alike) when engaging with Architects (and often on complex projects), is when to input into the scheme design.
More often than not, industry specialists are brought into a project too late into the design development, usually by Architects (or Main Contractors) who may have little knowledge of building requirements for systems design/integration.
By extension, once engaged on a project, systems specialists may often find themselves in unfavourable positions, when coordinating their specifications and design drawings, where other discipline requirements (MEP, Structures, Acoustics, Fire, etc.) have already been long-established on the project.
This presentation aims to highlight some of the lessons learned from such instances, and to enable ISCVE members to better integrate with established design teams, often on complex projects and to propose a way forwards for the wider industry to become more aware of Installed Sound and AV requirements, thereby encouraging earlier contractual appointment on projects.
A short Q&A forum-style session will follow the main presentation.
Alex Krasnic BEng(Hons) MSc FIOA MInstSVCE
Alex Krasnic has over 22 years professional experience working in the Acoustics industry for the Built Environment. Starting out by obtaining a First Degree in Aerospace Engineering, this was followed by specialising in Environmental and Building Acoustics.
Having worked with multi-disciplinary design teams for the majority of his career, Alex has been fortunate to marry his passion for Building Acoustics with Audio-visual design considerations on numerous high-profile schemes around the world.
With hundreds of completed projects since 2001 under his belt, Alex is now one of Buro Happold-Vanguardia’s Principal Acoustics Consultant, working alongside their London-based Audio-Visual Specialist Consulting team.
Recognising the delicate balance between all specialist design disciplines, Alex lends a sympathetic approach to building design where Acoustics and AV specialisms are often given late consideration on projects, or simply where key project stakeholders (Clients, Architects and Contractors) require a formative steer to grant them more holistic understanding on where these specialisms sit within the wider design remit.
