From Setback to Spotlight: Restoring Professionalism in the Live Events Industry
In his presentation, Andy will discuss the state of the live events sector before and after Covid. In conversations with many industry colleagues over the past year, he has noted there has been a marked decline in professionalism across the sector, with little indication of improvement. One clear example of this is the alarming increase in damage to multi-million-pound equipment returned to warehouses after shows or tours, with the damage rate now far exceeding pre-Covid levels.
Andy will explore why the government didn’t recognise the sector during the lockdown, classifying it as “unviable,” and how the pandemic has affected industry standards. He will also highlight the critical role education plays in shaping the future of the sector, focusing on how we can better promote career opportunities to young people, starting as early as age 11. With the industry largely invisible beyond our own circles, Andy will discuss the steps we need to take to make changes and attract the next generation of talent.
About Andy Dockerty
Andy founded Adlib in 1984, initially offering small PA systems in Liverpool. Over the years, Adlib expanded from audio services to a full production provider, supporting global tours, corporate events, and festivals with PA, lighting, video, rigging and skilled technicians.
Passionate about fostering young talent, Andy oversees Adlib’s training programs, helping shape the next generation of professionals. He was also instrumental in the wemakeevents initiative during lockdown and currently serves as Vice Chair of PLASA and on the Liverpool City Region Music Board.
Despite his significant industry accomplishments, Andy humbly admits he can’t play a note on any instrument!
