Learn the Fundamentals and Advanced Principles of Networking with our Training Courses

As audio and video technologies advance, the need for networking is increasingly crucial. A robust network can make routine tasks more efficient and, more importantly, make your projects run more smoothly. That’s why learning essential and advanced principles of networking is increasingly more important.

Principles of Networking is a CPD assessed training course that is designed to help you learn the fundamentals of networking. Advanced Principles of Networking is also CPD assessed and is designed to take your networking knowledge to the next level. Both courses are run by Mark Faulks, a seasoned sound networking expert with over 20 years of experience.

In this post, we’ll cover what the courses entail and how they can benefit you.

Principles of Networking

23 May 2023 09:30 – 5:00pm, Leisuretec, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire

The Principles of Networking course covers various essential topics, including network topologies, IP and MAC addressing, TCP vs UDP, and network configuration. The course aims to provide you with knowledge of network types and technologies, their applications and limitations, and the differences between switches and hubs. You’ll learn MAC addresses, full and half duplex, how TCP/IP protocols work, addressing, subnets, and routing.

The course goes on to cover network configuration and static vs. DHCP, DNS, gateways, and firewalls. You’ll learn how to design your network, identify and resolve common problems, and the factors that make up wireless networks. Mark Faulks will take you through the RF spectrum and channel overlap, SSID, authentication, and encryption.

This comprehensive course for AV engineers, sound engineers, and pro audio engineers includes several modules that will teach you everything you need to know to achieve better network performance. From planning, building, to operating and maintaining your networks, this course will provide you with the necessary tools to manage and control them more effectively.

Advanced Principles of Networking

24 May 2023 09:30 – 5:00pm, Leisuretec, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire

Our ‘Advanced Principles of Networking’ course covers a range of topics, including maximising available bandwidth, improving network reliability through redundancy, prioritising audio data to maintain audio quality, network security, and monitoring. This course will help you gain a deeper understanding of Spanning Tree (including RSTP and MSTP), Link Aggregation, VLAN, QoS (including CoS and DSCP), and SNMP.

One of the key topics we cover in this course is Spanning Tree. This is a protocol designed to prevent network loops in Ethernet networks. RSTP and MSTP are advanced features that help networks recover faster from failures. We’ll discuss how they work and why they matter in a real-time audio and video context.

Another important topic we’ll cover is VLANs. A VLAN is a logical grouping of network devices that share a common set of requirements. We’ll explore how VLANs can be used to improve network performance by separating voice and data traffic onto different networks. We’ll also cover Link Aggregation, which helps to increase network bandwidth.

QoS is another important topic we cover in our course. QoS, which stands for Quality of Service, refers to the capability of a network to provide better service to selected network traffic. We’ll cover the different types of QoS, including CoS and DSCP, and how they can be used to prioritise network traffic and maintain audio quality.

Finally, network security is another key topic we cover in our course. We’ll discuss how to secure your network against potential threats, including malware, hackers, and other security risks. We’ll cover a range of network security best practices, including how to secure your network through proper authentication and encryption techniques.

In Summary

Investing in learning the fundamentals of networking is an excellent way to future-proof your IT career or improve business performance. With Principles of Networking, you’ll have access to the right tools and strategies to design, implement, manage, and troubleshoot your network.

If you’re looking to take your networking knowledge to the next level, our ‘Advanced Principles of Networking’ training course is the perfect opportunity. This course is designed for AV engineers, sound engineers, and pro audio engineers who already have a good understanding of the basics of Ethernet and IP, and who are ready to learn new skills and techniques that will make them stand out in their field.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or starting, our CPD assessed courses will take your knowledge to the next level. So, if you’re an AV engineer, sound engineer, or pro audio engineer looking to upskill, enroll today!
