With a career spanning almost 50 years, Dr David Tyas has vast experience of audio and AV equipment & system design, initially in the employment of others before running his own multi award winning manufacturing, installation and design companies.
Equipment design experience covers both analogue and digital systems and he believe that good product design comes from a complete understanding of not only how the device is to operate and what its features are, but also how it will be applied and used. This way a complete understanding of the design requirements can be achieved.
The range of systems and products he has been involved in designing, range from lighting and power control, audio & video processing and distribution, Industrial and AV control system as well alarm and monitoring systems for critical areas.
One of his specialities is the design of ‘mission critical’ systems where the possibility of operational failure is not an option. A great deal of this is related to VA system monitoring for sports venues and it was due to this in particular that he was asked to join the BS7827 team to create the new standard for sports arenas.
‘Mission Critical’ systems are not confined to the audio industry as he was also the senior engineer on the Mediate project, a pan European collaboration of Universities relying on a single commercial partner to implement a safe interactive environment for Autistic children allowing them to interact with a wide range of sensory experiences whist the system automatically monitors the child reaction to adapt the environment of shut it down on the first sign of distress.
As well being a Fellow of the Institute, David is also a Member of the Audio Engineering Society, MENSA and is an active Rotarian.
