ISCVE Supporting Member NEXO has played a key role in delivering high-quality sound reinforcement for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club’s T20 matches at the Seat Unique Stadium.
At first glance, it might have appeared to be a straightforward project, particularly for the experienced team at Bristol-based event production specialists Enlightened. Having previously designed and deployed a sound system for a large-scale drone show at the venue, the team was already familiar with the stadium and its requirements.
However, while the brief stayed the same – delivering powerful, full-range sound and consistent coverage without obstructing spectators’ views – T20 cricket presented a quite distinct set of challenges. With play taking place on the ground rather than in the sky, providing clear sightlines from every seat was only the beginning.
“The speakers couldn’t be much higher than the advertising hoardings around the pitch, but this didn’t present too much of a problem,” explained Ryan Stromski, Hire and Production Account Manager at Enlightened. “We knew immediately that stacks of three NEXO GEO M6 line array modules on a single MSUB15 around the perimeter would provide the low-profile coverage required, together with the detailed speech intelligibility and high-impact sound needed for a T20 match atmosphere.”
The system comprises ten low-profile loudspeaker stacks positioned around the boundary, each using NEXO GEO M6 line array loudspeakers and MSUB15 subwoofers. Additional NEXO ID24 and P12 loudspeakers provide infill coverage throughout the venue.
While the loudspeaker design itself was relatively straightforward, the project presented several infrastructure challenges. A Dante network links NEXO NXAMP Powered TD Controllers positioned around the ground, with cable runs extending beyond typical recommended distances. Despite this, the network has reportedly operated reliably throughout the season without dropouts.
To support multiple fixtures with minimal setup time, the infrastructure stays permanently installed, allowing Enlightened’s team to redeploy loudspeakers and amplifier racks quickly and efficiently ahead of each match. The system supports match-day commentary, pre- and post-match entertainment, and crowd engagement activities throughout the season.
Ryan noted that the project showed the importance of balancing optimum system design with the practical realities of a live sporting venue, where venue requirements, player safety and operational considerations all play a key role in the final solution.
The installation continues to enhance the match-day experience for players, spectators and event organisers throughout Gloucestershire’s 2026 T20 campaign.
