Shure Systems Power The Hunger Games Stage Production at Canary Wharf Theatre
Autograph has selected the Shure Axient® Digital Wireless System to support the ambitious stage production of The Hunger Games at Canary Wharf Theatre, delivering reliable wireless performance for one of London’s most physically demanding theatre productions.
Working with Sound Designer Ian Dickinson, the production required a wireless solution capable of supporting intense choreography, fight sequences, flying performers and complex staging within a newly constructed venue purpose-built for the show.
“We knew from the start that some moments in the show would be heavily choreographed, almost like a dance piece at times,” says Dickinson. “We also had to factor in the many fight sequences, often in skin-tight body suits, so discreet equipment and comfortable positioning were absolutely essential.”
Autograph deployed a comprehensive Axient Digital system featuring 36 ADX1M Micro Bodypack Transmitters, 11 AD4Q four-channel receivers and two AD610 Diversity ShowLink® Access Points, alongside handheld transmitters, in-ear monitoring, Wireless Workbench and WaveTool monitoring software.
Dickinson commented:
“I’ve been a Shure fan for many years. On most shows I work on, I specify ADX1M transmitters because they’ve proven reliable throughout.”
Reliability in a Demanding Theatre Environment
The highly physical nature of the production made durability and transmitter profile critical considerations.
“The Shure Axient packs have been a major contributor to the success of the show,” Dickinson explains. “With such a physical and high-energy production, systems with external antennas would almost certainly have resulted in frequent damage and replacements.”
The purpose-built theatre also introduced significant RF challenges due to its metallic structure and the scale of the playing area.
“From day one we’ve had seamless coverage throughout the large playing space, and I can’t remember the last time we had any kind of RF drop-out or interference.”
Wireless Workbench, ShowLink and WaveTool have also played a key role during setup and daily operation, particularly where rapid patching changes are required during performances.
“Theatre environments demand absolute confidence in wireless performance, particularly when productions are as physically ambitious as The Hunger Games. Axient Digital continues to deliver the reliability, control and audio quality required for modern theatre productions, even in highly challenging RF conditions.” Peppe Mallozzi, Sales Manager Shure UK
