ISCVE members are always keen to support wherever possible and recently I was able to do just that. I recently visited a Place of Worship in Holland Park to inspect their sound system. They told me not to bother inspecting the two induction loop systems because they were being removed as they were surplus to requirements – no one in the congregation currently needed to use them!

Far too often, venues seem to be unaware of the Equality Act 2010 and how it is illegal not to provide assistive listening systems in their buildings, along with disabled toilets, ramps etc. This was certainly the case in this instance.

After pointing out the legal requirements and offering to check that it worked, the client was grateful.

I urge all members to remind their clients of their legal obligation and to test the equipment on a regular basis, say at least once a year. Apart from checking everything is working as it should, it also provides an opportunity to ensure that your clients know how to use equipment effectively.

As ISCVE members we are committed to inclusion and equality for all and by working together we can continue to make a difference.
