Kentec is an end-to-end manufacturer, employing around 240 members of staff in its production facility, head office and research and developments departments.

Today Kentec is a wholly-owned subsidiary (and stand-alone business) of the Hochiki Corporation based in Japan with 100 years of heritage in the fire industry.

Responsible: Director of Sales / General Manager for Product Management and Technical Support (Reporting ratio to be confirmed)

Job Family: Sales & Support

Purpose of the Role:

A new role within Kentec to build, develop and support the business and customers as we add voice alarm products to our portfolio.

Sales

  • Drive sales bids and develop sales opportunities for voice alarm systems with regional BDM’s and own generated project and specification sales.
  • Provide support to the sales and customer service teams
  • Develop good practices for voice system sales
  • Develop and deliver voice alarm system sales training and CPD courses
  • Support with application design, speaker designs and specifications

Technical Support

  • Train the technical support team on the products within the voice alarm portfolio
  • Train the support team on code of practice and expected system support enquiries
  • Develop and deliver voice alarm product training to our customers
  • Provide “first time installation” support to our trained customers
  • Provide top tier support to colleagues
  • To apply knowledge and understanding of the features, functions, and benefits of the Kentec Electronics Ltd portfolio to offer the best solution to the customer.
  • To deliver the Kentec voice alarm growth strategy, resulting in the expansion of the voice alarm sales and support team.

Areas of Responsibility / Tasks:

Voice Alarm Sales Development

  • Drive sales and revenues of Voice Alarm products. Targeted on product group sales via regional sales BDM’s territories
  • Regular reporting and update of CRM based on activity and project tracking
  • Develop and support the Kentec Sales team to allow strategic goals and sales targets to be achieved

Voice Alarm Technical Support and training

  • Develop and support the Kentec technical support, training, customer service and field support teams to enhance their product knowledge, system design and voice alarm system knowledge.
  • Develop and deliver training and support for Kentec key installation partners and group companies

Product Management

  • Liaise closely with product management to identify product portfolio gaps and enhancements to allow sales growth.
  • Develop global market knowledge and work with product management to deliver solutions for selected markets.
  • SWOT analysis of competitor products. PESTLE analysis of market and wider environment, Identify and classify risks, problems, shortcomings etc.
  • Lead and report back the Voice of the customer and future enhancement of the existing and new products from the different market segments.
  • Driving profitability and life cycle of Fire and Voice Products by supporting product management in defining global pricing strategies and managing global frame agreements.

Reporting

  • Prepare weekly activity plans and reports for submittal to manager
  • Prepare monthly reports and accurate forecast in requested format
  • Regularly update CRM tool with customer activities

Marketing

  • Collaborating with Marketing Communication Team and Sales teams to define marketing plans, including marketing communication activities, training activities and sales initiatives.

Communicate to Customer

  • Create and conduct quotations, presentations related to proposal, costing and pricing models
  • Influence / persuade / negotiate solutions to key decision makers
  • Contract conclusion (obtain confirmed order)

Market knowledge & education

  • Remain informed on developments in technology and solutions both for Kentec Electronics Ltd portfolio and industry-wide
  • Remain informed on competitor’s offering / portfolio / campaigns
  • Remain broadly educated on new technology / solution developments

Team role

  • Work and collaborate with team members with customer related tasks / knowledge development
  • Involve internal partners and maintain continuous communication (marketing department, internal sales/customer services, technical department, commercial etc.)
  • Motivate internal partners to give key assistance in the sales process

Educational Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 GCSE’s at A to C grade
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electronics Engineering
  • Proven track record of technical and commercial experience in the Voice Alarm Industry
  • Knowledge of Electronics, audio amplification, networked systems
  • Membership of ISCVE an advantage

  • Technologies – Fire Detection & Alarm systems, EVCS, PAVA
  • Methodologies – logical approach to problem solving, organised approach
  • Methodologies – good interpersonal skills, telephone manner, etc.

  • Professional Knowledge – Presentation / communication skills / negotiation skills
  • Professional Knowledge – Estimating / costing / budgeting / financial – commercial tools

Experience: 

  • Experience in a range of business situations
  • 2-5 years’ technical and commercial experience in the Voice Alarm sector
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Electronics, audio amplification and networked systems
  • Proven understanding and application of relevant British Codes of Practice and European Voice Alarm Product Approval requirements. A knowledge of relevant UL voice alarm product approvals an advantage 
  • Experience in selling to and supporting the fire alarm industry trade.
