Baldwin Boxall Communications Limited is a highly successful SME based in Crowborough, that designs, manufactures and markets voice alarm and emergency voice communication equipment for varying sectors, including commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, transport and public service facilities, distributing worldwide.

Independently owned, this family business has grown significantly over its 40 years of trading and now employs around 70 staff.  Despite this growth, the business has maintained a simple structure and boasts a very low staff turnover.   

This vacancy has arisen as a result of a mixed role being split into two full time positions following the growth of the company in recent years and is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated individual with experience of managing an HR function at a similar size of company, who is looking to put their own stamp on the HR systems and processes as the Company takes the next step in its development.

Working closely with the directors, the successful candidate will be joining an ambitious, growing business, with a clearly defined vision and a set of values that informs all business decision making.

The Role:

  • Permanent, full-time
  • 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Salary – Salary on application – depending on experience and qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Enhance the presentation of the Company’s profile to potential candidates
  • Manage the recruitment process, including preparing job adverts, candidate selection, interviewing and job offers, through to the onboarding of new starters
  • Manage complex employee relations including dispute resolutions, disciplinaries, grievances, absence, retirement and redundancy
  • Maintaining a positive working environment and employee relationships between employees and management, to boost morale and job satisfaction
  • Oversee the employee appraisal process, including the creation and execution of personal development plans
  • Oversee staff training to ensure that training requirements are identified and executed
  • Develop HR policy and procedures to drive performance and mitigate disputes, ensuring that these comply with up-to-date legislation and best practice. Maintain the employee handbook to this effect
  • Provide guidance to the directors and senior leadership team on all HR related matters
  • Manage the timeclock system and input base payroll data into the required format for our external payroll provider
  • Select and implement a new HR software system, including the provision of training to staff
  • Manage the employee benefits programme including private medical insurance, life assurance and employee assistance programmes
  • Complete staff satisfaction surveys and provide recommendations to the directors of ways in which satisfaction can be improved
  • Actively participate in the Company’s “Traction” initiative (a business operating system) and other senior leadership discussions
  • Organise staff events

Person Specification:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role (manager level)
  • CIPD level 5 qualification or similar desired
  • Solid understanding of employment legislation
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Confident, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion and diplomacy
  • Self-motivated and able to work under own autonomy
  • Pro-active, with a desire to identify and adopt best working practices
  • Desire to further their CPD and bring new ideas to the table
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Experience of successfully managing change and cultural development
  • Working knowledge of MS Office is essential
